Helping People Heal.

Helping Systems Transform.

Our Mission

A practice built with purpose.

West Rose Therapy & Consultation, LLC was founded by Dr. Shantel Crosby, PhD, LCSW, with a clear and intentional mission: to create an affirming space where Black and racially marginalized individuals can process, grow, and heal; to help schools and organizations build more equitable, trauma-sensitive environments; and to de-stigmatize mental health.

Whether you're an individual seeking therapy or coaching, a professional looking to grow through continuing education, or an organization ready to do the deeper work of culture change, West Rose meets you there.

West Rose is a 100% Black and woman-owned business. We believe that representation in mental health care is a necessity, and our work is grounded in cultural responsiveness, empirical rigor, and a deep commitment to equity.

Provide an affirming space for people of color to process, grow, and heal from life’s challenges

Help orgs to become more equitable and trauma-informed through training, consultation, & evaluation

Promote and de-stigmatize mental health for vulnerable members of our community

Whether you're navigating trauma, pursuing growth, or simply trying to breathe again, your full humanity is always at the center of everything we do.

Dr. Shantel Crosby is a proud Detroit native, a published researcher, and a deeply committed therapist. She holds both a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. She also went on to earn a PhD in Social Work from Wayne State University, and has spent over 15 years at the intersection of clinical practice, social work research, and organizational change.

As a tenured Associate Professor of Social Work at the University of Louisville, Dr. Crosby's research has focused on trauma, trauma-informed practice, and racial equity, work that has informed federal legislation, state policy, and local school practice. She co-edited and co-authored Understanding and Implementing Trauma-Informed Practice in Schools (Routledge), an evidence-based guide now used by educators and practitioners internationally. She has presented nationally and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.

In her clinical practice, Dr. Crosby specializes in working with people of color who are navigating the weight of trauma, burnout, and life transitions. She is trained in EMDR, CBT, Kniffley Racial Trauma Therapy, and a range of other evidence-based approaches, but leads every client relationship with genuine care and cultural understanding. She recognizes that each person's lived experience is unique and adapts her approach accordingly.

Dr. Crosby is also the author of Me Time. Therapy Journal — a guided self-reflection resource for therapy clients invested in their mental wellness. Currently available in a paperback and digital version.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Crosby's faith, family, and friends are everything! She loves traveling, discovering new restaurants, and getting lost in a good book.
